Please contact the office team at bwesoffice@k12albemarle.org or 434-973-3865 if your child is absent from school. You can refer to this See You In Class or Best to Stay Home guide to determine if your child should attend school or not due to illness. The Virginia Department of Health also has a useful chart for comparing symptoms. The best way to prevent the spread of illnesses is reminding your child to cover coughs and wash hands frequently.

School attendance is directly related to academic achievement and the development of good habits, which are important in the world of work. Optimum student attendance is a cooperative effort and the School Board expects families and students to take an active role in accepting the responsibility for good attendance. The state of Virginia requires the school to report the numbers of students with excessive absenteeism (more than 10 days) and maintains firm compulsory attendance and truancy laws to assure the best possible attendance for all students. Please keep in mind that your child is considered chronically absent if they miss 10% or more of the school year. This means 2-3 days per month or a total of 18 days of school if the child was enrolled for the entire 180 days of the school year. Please contact your child's teacher or the office team with any questions and we will be glad to help.
